    CD/DVD ROM plays DVDs but not CDs

    Have a laptop that plays DVDs fine but if I put a cd whether its music or data it will not show up. I uninstalled it from device manager. I deleted the upper and lower filters already but no change.

    One thing that might work is if you go to Device manager and uninstall the network. That might allow you to go back to a dynamic setting. You can also use WinSock XP Fix it's a great little program that has helped me many times concerning NIC problems...

    When you say it takes 15 minutes to restart are you saying thats how long it takes to boot up? Or are you not able to turn it on until 15 minutes have passed by?

    I am not able to run a chkdsk with the original hard drive. I haven't tried doing that with the other sata hard drive. I will try the Hirens boot cd and get back to you. Keep your fingers crossed.
