Yesterday I noticed that my hardware acceleration wasnt working in my new 2.6.0 kernel because Tux Racer was running very very slow on my 2.8GHz machine and previously it used to run very fast on my old PIII 450MHz. I am using an ATI Radeon 7000 gfx card. So I searched around the net and found...

Hi, I am Running Redhat 9. I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.0(since i had it lying around and wanted to test the 2.6 kernel =P). Everything went perfect except the fact that sound doesnt work.
I am using a Intel D865GBF motherboard so I have a onboard sound card(AC97 or something). The system...
I havent actually removed the whole setup and put it on a card board. But I have put a plastic sheet behind the mobo to insulate it from the metal surfaces of the case. But it didnt work. I will try it outside on a cardboard if you feel that my solution was insufficient.
Also, I dont have a...
Yes I turned off all such settings. It had something called as ACPI. Whats that? I turned off Power On on ring, NIC cards and all those options where i could find "Power On". But its still giving me that problem =(.
Could there be a remote chance that my 300W PSU is insufficient and a 350/400W...
Hi, I recently purchased an Intel 2.8C GHz HT 800MHz FSB processor and Intel D865GBF motherboard. The problem i am facing is that when i turn on my mains the computer switches itself on. This happens occassionally. But when this happens my computer doesnt boot. It just freezes up at the POST. On...
I am using Jay's Firewall configuration utility to configure my iptables firewall. Originally when configured it, all ports were stealthed. But now some of my ports are visible. Ports 25(SMTP) and 53(DNS) are shown as closed and open respectively. Also, I am getting some errors when my system...
IMO WinXP is trash. It has so many vulnerabilities, so many virus attacks. Try securing your computer with XP. NTFS is the worst FS I've seen. I love my EXT3 FS on my Linux partition or Fat32 on WinME.
I've never suffered from a virus infection in several years. Maybe its not because of WinME...

I have three question.
First, I have mounted my windows partitions to /mnt/c and /mnt/d. How do I set the permissions on them so that users from a particular group(say home) can write to it? Because everytime I have to delete/move/copy some file to those partitions I have to relogin as root. I...
Ok, heres what I do when I have to recover from such a bad crash:
1. Take my HDD out.
2. Make 'em slave and put 'em in another XP computer
3. Copy all my docs/important stuff to the other HDD
4. Format my HDD.
5. Reinstall XP
6. Restore my docs/imp. stuff
About using XP, i hardly used it for a...
