Whoa! That's good to know about the database space requirements. If we upgrade to 5.2, I'm sure it will be across the board on all our servers. Currently, we have 5 TSM servers backing up the entire enterprise and the AIX box I mentioned above has a large database (106 Gb) with pretty high...
Thanks comtec17!
Would it be worth our while to go ahead and jump straight to TSM v.5.2? IBM is leaning on us to do that, but we are currently not under mainatenance and management doesn't want to shell out the bucks. We are trying to leverage the upgrade based on NDMP file level restore...
I don't know what your experience has been but we are having a ton of problems with TSM 5.1.7.1 on Solaris 8 & 9.
We have good performance after a reboot, but all server activity grinds to a snails pace after a couple of days. Our TSM domain that is on Solaris 9 crashes about every 2-3 days as...
Before you go getting third party diagnostics, I would give the Dell diags a shot. They are current and pretty darn thorogh as well as being maximized for Dell machines.
Good Luck!
10,000 plus systems on this end. That might be why we don't have too much trouble with Dell Support <wink><wink>.
To get to all the downloads for these systems go to http://support.dell.com/us/en/home.asp
Click on "Select another system" on the left. Close any annoying pop-ups and...
There are numerous issues that could contribute to the symptoms you describe. Are the PCs networked? Do they exhibit the same symptoms when you remove them from the network? Have you downloaded the latest BIOS and DIAGS from the Dell website and installed / run them? Have you done the reload...
Sticking my nose in again!
Common mistake often made with FDISK... You MUST reboot before trying to Format. You probably did, but just to be sure I thought I'd mention it.
Also, SoA, I forwarded a note to you a while back that had a link to the Sony website for BIOS updates. As I recall you...
Thanks for the kind words garebo. I will try to watch this thread as time permits, but work has been a little crazy lately. I'm sure you guys will find a solution and I promise to stick my nose in where I can.
That said <wink><wink>, here comes my big ole nose... I believe that you'll find...
Well, SonofAdam...
It looks like you are in good hands with garebo. He can probably steer you straight. If you just need some reading material you might try these links:
http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/booterr-i.htm
and the subcategory under that link here...
Hi, again!
Told you I would look for a Low Level Format utility. In fact, I think you already have it, as I think I recall e-mailing this link to you before. The utility is called POWERMAX. It includes diagnostics and a LLF utility, as well. Here is the description from the Maxtor/Quantum site...
You really should be able to set your BIOS to AUTO and it should pick up the drive's parameters. You might try that again. I am not one that will quickly say "the drive is bad" because I have resurrected many that have been deemed bad by other Techs. However, that may be a possibility...
Cool! I like C.S. Lewis, too!
OK, again, I am not intimately familiar with Sonys, but what I gather from their Restore procedure is that if your BIOS is configured to Boot from the CDROM, you should be able to boot to your restore CD and start the restore process. I am assuming that this is...
SonofAdam (Do you know the Son of Man?)
Here is a link to the Sony website for your PCV 120 Desktop PC that describes the System Restore process. Make sure you pick Section II,"Full Format and Recovery". Follow the directions faithfully and you should be in business...
Hi again, SonofAdam. I have signed up and am no longer a visitor (tmclain). Based on what you have written and the responses following. I have this insight...
First, the CDROM on the secondary is OK. If you trace the IDE cable, you'll find that it is attached to the Secondary IDE port and is...
Dave,
Basic troubleshooting comes to mind. I would suspect software first. What have you changed lately? Also, have you tried to boot into Safe Mode (Hold down F8 on startup) and choose the Step by Step option? This will allow you to see exactly what is happening that is causing your problems...
