I was just wondering if you knew of any kind of setting that would make the network disconnect after a certain idle period. I can't see why there would be one on Windows Server 2003 and also it still does not solve the issue of why it doesn't work on boot.

Thanks for those suggestions. I installed the latest nForce drivers earlier today which didn't seem to make a change but I have now forced the servers NIC to 100FD and set the switch to 100FD.
I will restart the machine and see what happens in a bit and let you know.

Sorry but it is not really possible for me to tell as the service is remote but from the event log there is nothing to show that the network card was powered down or anything like that.

I have a Dell SC1425 Windows 2003 machine and a KVM over IP unit which seem to be having the problems. As soon as I add the MAC address' into the static unicast table they seem to work almost fine but they still have the occasional drop but only for a minute or so compared to the few hours...
Just another piece of information I have discovered if it helps. When the machine is responding the mac address for the device will appear in the mac table but when the device appears down the mac will not be listed. However the link is still shown as active on the port list.
