The thing to keep in mind is that you are going to have 1 BES server, which will maintain a MAPI connection for each user, and poll the mapi connection every 5 seconds or so... you have to watch the traffic on you site links.
Other than that if your dealer is like me, I will give clients a 5...
I think the blackberry is better... the talk about speed of email is BS. Both goodlink and BES use mapi to talk to the Exchange server, they both maintain connections to relays hosted by Good and RIM... the only difference is the encryption.
Whoever talked about Blackberry not having a browser...
Pretty much all phones are MIDP complient... so you should be able to use that to create midlet's with 2way socket communication that will work on and java based device...
I've had a Goodlink server up for a while, I also have a GoodAccess server... My company is a Good partner as well as a RIM partner, as well as Rogers Silver Certified... I have both a Treo600 and a Blackberry, but only keep the BB with me.
On a more interesting note... this is not an ad, but...
Initializing for the user status means you need to generate new keys... remove their intellisync profile, then hook the handheld back up and generate new keys from the desktop software. There is help on the RIM website for this.
If you can get the BES to run on the same box as your exchange server is, more power to you... If you do get it running, you *will* have problems and RIM ain't gonna help you. Keep in mind that a BES server maintains a MAPI connection for each of you BB users and polls every 5 seconds or so, so...
OK... here's the deal... a BES server will support up to 2000 users, in theory... which is all good for a Domino server, which uses NRPC, Notes RPC, I think, it's been a while... to communicate between Notes and BES...
Communication between Exchange and BES on the other hand uses MAPI... MAPI...
RF is a wonderful thing... this actually happens with any cell phone as far as I know. I only use GSM/GPRS devices, so it may be limited to them... as a side note... ever notice that sometimes you can hear a radio station signal through your speakers at times? same deal.
