We had a similair problem. You are using ghosting for deploying computers. Create a ghost without the file WFCNAME.INI (just delete it). When a users start the ICA client, it will create a new one with the right computername in it. The users need to have access rights to the location to change...
It could be a problem with the users's profile. Try to delete his profile and login with the user. Perhaps his color depth of his screen settings was to high to support 1024X768.

For backing up an other server with Be8.5 you need to buy a Backup Exec remote agent and install it on the other server. I had the same problem.
You don't need a remote agent for backing up workstations

Did you really install Be7.3 on the NT4 server or from a workstation to the NT4 server?
Are you using Netware services or IIS on the NT4?
Can you try to install a higher Service Pack for NT, because SP4 is not a good service pack? (lots of bugs)

I have no problems with the average time of the backups.
I get even 93 GB on a 40/80 GB tape!! I'm only using hardware compression, software compression takes to much CPU. We have Ultra-Wide SCSI-3 en the tape drive is internal and get about 350 MB/minute!
