Windows firewall is probably blocking the watchdog packets. BTW if a hard disk is making noise, failure is imminent. Noise means friction.

It is the "stacked" part that is the gotcha. Can you just get a cheap unmanaged switch and put the failover in that?

I posted this in the AIX forum as well. Can anyone suggest a way to measure the amount of data passed between a solaris web server and an AIX database server? I am trying to look into the bandwidth needs if the database server moves to a different location.

Disclaimer - not a Unix user. Is there a command or method available which would allow me to measure the amount of data passed between a solaris web server and an AIX database server in a given timeframe?
