Your very first step is to d/load an antivirus prog and run it. Even fdisk will not get rid a virus if your floppy is infected. A virus will jump from floppy to HDD or visa versa and also if you only reset and not cold boot, the virus will stay active in memory to reinfect as soon as you start...
Several things to do.
1). Could be bad connection: remove, clean and replace memory chips, cpu and all expansion cards.
2). Bad power to m/b: Put multimeter on psu/mb connector when under load (running) or try another psu
3). Failed peripheral or irq conflict: Remove all expansion cards and...
Hi food,
It sounds like time for a new m/b but first try unplugging the ps2 mouse and cold boot. I recently worked on an Acer that worked fine with k/b only but "keyboard failure" error when plugged ps2 mouse in.
It sounds like you may have a damaged hard disk causing Windows to stall. Reloading Windows is OK over the top without risk of losing data. Reload will only replace missing or corrupted files. From a command prompt, run Scandisk with the following;-
<drive>:\scandisk /all
If your hard disk is...
I have a CDRW on my machine with kid's PC's networked to mine via 10mb coaxial. Using DirectCD I drag n' drop their essential stuff to burner which copies at normal speed. I haven't tried burning across the network directly though would imagine might be OK at low speed.
Hope this helps........
Hi,
I have a problem I hope you can help me with. Am running Win98se on AMD/VIA with 128SD. Spell check doesn't work in Outlook Express and brings up an error. Win98se has only been installed for a few weeks and was a clean install. The only other prog installed is Works 4.0 in which speller...
Hendo,
Do search for a file called CTBIOS which you can also get from the AWARD site. From DOS prompt, type CTBIOS and will tell you manufacturer is VTECH or PC CHIPS and the date of BIOS as well as the website to get a later BIOS from.
Download a file called Data Advisor from Ontrack which...
Hi Ed,
Before spending money do these few things, a process of elimination;-
Is your P/S new or old? (wattage?)
I find I sometimes have to twist active & negative terminals in the 3 pin socket to make the cable a tighter fit and stop arcing
Disconnect all non-essential...
Usually cartridge sitting in middle with flashing light imdicates faulty cartridge. You may have been unlucky enought to strike 2 faulty cartridges but unlikely. More probabley a damaged logic board. Try inserting a BC-20 and see what happens. If same results, start looking for a new printer.
kb244 is dead right. CPU speed means little if you bottleneck elsewhere. My Duron 700 on Asus K7V runs rings around PIII 800eb's I am building for clients. This board has excellent support for ATA-100 drives @ 7200rpm and will allow lotsa tweaking if required. Keep your primary partition at...
Go through the above steps to make sure the OS is talking to your modem OK. If it is, and your modem is internal, go to "Control Panel/Network/Win Config" and disable "Wins Resolution". You will have to reboot to take effect.
Also, does your ISP use DNS? If you have...
Which programme is associated with .mid & .wav flies? IF is real player for example, try associating with another such as winamp or musicmatch etc. I found windows media player to be a dog..... a pretty dog but still a dog. Does your PC play these files when not on the net? If it does, then...
Hi David, Thanks for the reply. Doesn't help much as I'm thinking along the same lines though I still hope maybe in the BIOS I've missed something? Again...thanks
