    Setting up wireless network

He should check with his ISP as to which DSL modems are compatible with his system. He can buy one and stop renting from the ISP. Then all is good.

    hardware vs. software firewalls

You should consider a Cisco PIX. It'll do NAT for your private ip addresses, provides Stateful Packet Inspection, and uses the Adaptive Security Algorithm. For a workgroup, you only need a pix 501 and you will notice a big difference between a hardware firewall and software firewalls. Combined...

    PDM 301

I have the exact same problem and reinstalling the client didn't work. Neither did reinstalling the pdm.bin or write erase and re-configuring the pix. Also made sure that popups weren't being blocked and IE allows java, etc....PDM worked fine until I upgraded to 6.3(4) and PDM 3.x.

Subneting on the current CCNA exam

According to ODOM's Cisco Press book, they will specify subnet 0 and RFC compliant, blah blah blah. If no mention, then exclude 0 and broadcast.

which router to buy for ccna

Ciscokits is the place to go for CCNA routers. The ones I bought from them were in great working order and they included IOS images AND LABS. I bought another router from jerk called speedy47 and regretted the purchase....he wasn't honest and he wasn't speedy.

    Setting up my home network

Get a broadband router. set it's inside interface address to 192.168.1.1. set the outside interface to dhcp for your isp's dynamically assigned ip address. statically assign the address 192.168.1.10 to your server and each workstation should have 192.168.1.11, 12, 13 etc...just make sure all...

Promote Windows 2003 Server to DC

You should upgrade to 2003 and adprep /forestprep and /domainprep the DC that has the schema master role. Leave A.D. in mixed mode and the Win 2k DCs will work fine with the 2003 DC. Spaz Mahoney, MCSE

connection timed out for inbound connections

I take it that this is a problem with the pix 6.2(2). thanks for the advice. In order to upgrade, do I have to buy a Smartnet warranty. If so, am I able to get that from any vendor that sells Cisco devices. I was overcharged by the company I bought the pix from (both for the unit's advertised...

    RIS server

I had similar problems with having DHCP running on a different win 2k server than the RIS server. I setup DHCP on the RIS server and activated it in Authorized it in Active Directory. Worked like a charm. Another suggestion is to customize the ristndrd.sif and riprep.sif files with your desired...
