bfitzmai, Tried all that and yes the root disk is mirrored. Tried both disks and no avail. Fsck'd both disk also with no luck. Any other suggestions?

I have just sorted the problem and its related to the .jpui directory under the users home directory which had the wrong permissions set up it. After I changed the permissions to 777 on this file all worked fine.
