    Com ports not in sequence

That was the answer...or lead to the answer. I was able to copy my "new" and the bogus ports (Both worked) over the ones maked as busy.

    Com ports not in sequence

Deleting the device and resetting plug and play in bios has the same result. The OS is Windows 2000.

    Com ports not in sequence

I re-added a communication card to my system, when the card was installed It added two additional serial ports instead of reusing com5 and com6. I have deleted the previous comports from device manager and even from the registry, but still cannot recover the older com values. The previous...

windows xp run key started program does not start

The solution was to turn off boot optimization with MMC. This worked good. Adding the additional "\" did not seem to make any difference. The "Always wait till network....." local policy setting is retained after sysprep. "Autostarting USMT is the bomb", Upgrades and installs are almost...

windows xp run key started program does not start

Is there a timing issue in Widows XP (SP2) when starting a program with: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run? The only unique thing about the program is resides on a server, not the local workstation. The program runs just fine from a command prompt after the system has booted...

    USMT firewall settings

I Have a client server application that exist on a customers site. I do not have control over group policies as customer IT departments are very territorial (Rightfully so, since they are responsible to their companies). I only really have control over the workstations during installs and...

    USMT firewall settings

I am migrating from one XP setup to another using USMT. I want to force the firewall on, which I can do with netfw.inf, However, when the USMT restore completes the settings from netfw.inf are overwritten, turning off the firewall. The USMT documentation says that only the "Internet Connection...

    MSDE SP4 SA login

O.K., figured it out on my own. MSDE with SP4 installed will no longer change login modes on the fly. Eventhough the database said it was in mixed mode, it was not. Mixed mode does not take affect till it restarts.

    MSDE SP4 SA login

I have a new MSDE database with SP4. I have configured it with a complex password (No choice). The problem I am running into is that I cannot login to the database as SA. I receive an error that SA is not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection. I do have mixed mode set (Verified...
