I know that some backup progs have max size limit ...

it is regular text file , not protected in any way ,
so I would think about some militious atack ... virus? - don't think so ... looks like someone is trying to sabotage ...

first of all , see the share perms , and the NTFS perms ...
see if you can get to the folder by : \\server\share
ofcourse you need a mapping for them (it is much conv. to work )
do it at the logon script ...

typing just : " net start " will show you the list of services running ...
I am sure that there are some utilities in resourse kit to do so ...

as far as I know it is not possible to do so without the trust relationship ,
when I needed to do so , I simply installed another NT4 in another directory ,
and had a dual boot computer . one for each domain ...

if I understood you right : you are copying the data from A to B , and after the copy , the user and groups rights are lost ...
read some about robocopy.exe it copies stuff with old perms .
if I didn't understand you well , sorry , try to explain it to me better .
