yes restore was turned off. I removed it safe mode mode and when booted the PC in normal mode Norton kicked in indicating that it found Trojan.zonebac...everytime it deleted the infected file....zonebac created a new variant and basically continues to loop. I've even opened the Windows Temp...

Thanks for the replys but I think I have already resolved the issue. Upgrading the OS to Windows XP Pro actually resolved the hardware conflict. I have yet to see any recurring symptoms, but if I do then I will try to post as much info as possible.
