Yup, you are correct, sir, but as I was knocking around I found the truncated text fix on microsofts site, no problems on my three dc's after installing....btw, citrix clients may die a horrible death after sp2 is installed...and nothing seems to work around it, not the newest client, not adding...
Reset all security on both xp boxes.

Re-enable admin shares if disabled, do not hide the xp boxes in network searches, if either of these are done...
There TONS of things you can do to cause this issue with xp, all within group...

A standard technique for this that usually works for me, step by step is;
Using spybot AND adaware, I remove all spyware-adware.
Download an eval of system mechanic and clean all the junk.
Remove ALL BHO's, and I mean all of them...manually.
Clean the registry with system mechanic or another...
Just to be sure, make sure you repair your tcpip registry entries, and reset the stach, using say, winfix_v2.exe.
But I also agree with the firewall issue, sometimes they just wont let go..
I would re-install, then uninstall, the firewall software, then run winfix, and reboot and try again...
Set the top drive on the cable to "MASTER" and the bottom to "SLAVE" , avoid CABLE SELECT, whenever possible.....it works for some, and can be a nightmare for others....make sure you have a proper cable in good condition....

set your initial vid card to pci in the bios, if you have an onboard agp vid card, disable it, install a pci card and try again(only to get through the setup procedure)
