WINS doesn't actually do any routing - it's merely a kind of database. So I would say that it's higher up than that.
DNS is layer 6 (Presentation) - or level 4 in the TCP/IP model - so I guess WINS would also be at that level.
When I check the size of my mailbox in Outlook 98 I get a correct figure, however when I check it through Mailbox Resources in Private Information Store properties this shows a higher figure.
I have completely emptied my mailbox from Outlook, however Exchange thinks I've still got 60MB in...

If I remember rightly we could only set up one of the virtual servers with a default instance so one of them had to be named. So at the time we decided to name them both in order to try and keep to a consistent naming convention.
Unfortunately UpdateExpert and Bindview expect a default...

Since setting up our W2k SQL2k two node active-active cluster and not being able to use the default instance of SQL2k, we have applied this principle to all the other SQL2k installations and given their instances more descriptive names i.e. BGBMON1 for our system monitoring server etc...
I have experienced this before and it appeared to happen when my PC ran out of virtual memory after the screen saver kicked in.
You may have a PC resource issue or maybe a memory leak.
Thanks for the info. It seemed to install OK on a test system but I still wouldn't chance it on our production environment. It looks like I can use our TSM system to do what I wanted to do.

If you haven't already I'd check the following;-
- You have a directory under exchsrvr called tracking.log and that there are *.log files in it
- The directory is shared as 'tracking.log'
- Your Exchange service account has full rights to it.
