Found It! It was the alternative user input date. I removed the US keyboard layout and the Us speech, handwriting recognition utilities. As I am an Aussie, I had all the Australian Layouts and speech recognition. Thanks for all your help.

sorry I can't mark your tips as helpful, cause it opens in another window and of course, they both close. I will try the office forum and see how I go there.

I have applied sp1 to xp and updated my officexp also.

one thing I did find in the registry (not that I am very confident about meddling with it) is that I have msctf(2)dll, amd mscft dll should I have the one with (2) on it thanks for your ongoing help

thanks, tried that didn't work. even boted my cd and ran repair but to no avail. any clues???????

Using XP Pro Ie6, Office XP. When I open 1 program eg. IE, I can't open a second window, both windows close. If i have Ie open, I can't open applications like system info. Also have the same problems with Email, Iexplorer windows, (can't open link in new window) both close. I get the error...
