Packetstorm says it is an Apache + openssl exploit that produces buffer overflow to gain root access.

I had this problem a while back but I can't remember how I fixed it. Check /usr/bin/gnome-session and look for a file named .xsession Make a backup copy of it (.bak) then delete the .xsession file. I think when you reboot and login again it creates a new default panel.
