    solution that works -go to regional options in the control panel -select Japanese as the default language in 'language settings for the system' before i had japanese selected is one of the options but it was not set as the default.

    thanks for the effort tulsaJeff, i'll keep working on it myself and put up any thing i can discover. i don't speak Japanese either, i just have to use it with any graphics tool that can handle it.

    ms gothic is over 4 megs, are you sure it will fit into your mail box

    i have installed fireworks3 on win2000 and have microsoft's ime (2000 japanese). i can edit japanese text in browsers, and word 2000 but i cannot edit it in fireworks, all i get are question marks on the image (although i do get japanese characters in the text input box). if i cut and paste from...
