Hard Drive Electronics Fried - Repairable?

Maxtor drives have a complicated way of matching firmware on thier newer drives. The best advice I can give you is to match the model number as closely as possible to the original. What are the differences between the two model numbers? RM http://www.pcbsearch.com.au

    Scandisk fails after 52%

I agree wotj Xeroid, but just in case, download the diagnostic software from the manufacturer and test the drive. RM http://www.pcbsearch.com.au

What's wrong with this Hard Drive?

Also, You might try to run the diagnostics program from the manufacturer. Seagates Seatools also diagnoses the OS as well, so that might tell you more (if it is Seagate) RM http://www.pcbsearch.com.au

Boot failure after removing slave drive

If the drive is a Western Digital, (and I assume it is) then remove all jumpers if it does not have a slave connected. This will resolve all your problems. RM http://www.pcbsearch.com.au

    Hard Drive failure

If you are after the data , then most "recovery CDs' supplied with computers will erase all data. Read the instructions very carefully before trying this. RM http://www.pcbsearch.com.au

    Hard Drive failure

It sounds like the HDD has failed. Are you after the data, or just looking to repair the drive so it works again? RM http://www.pcbsearch.com.au

    Hard disk faillure

Try to copy the data off via a slave first, as the "Freezer trick" could cause condensation on your drive and make it worse. RM

    3 rings, no boot

Some types of Maxtor drives give of 3 beeping noises when there is a problem iwth the motor. Check the drive and if it is a MAxtor, slave it to another machine and see if that is the problem. If it is, the drive will not be spinning. You will need to get the drive repaired to recover any data...

    Hard disk faillure

the error message you are getting is related to SMART. Slave the drive immediately and put it into another computer with the operating sytem already installed. You shoudl be able to read it without too many problems. Make sure that you do not let CHKdisk run before you copy the data...

    Hard Drve malfunction...

when the drive detects in BIOS, does it detect a your model number (4D80H2 or similar) or does it detect as "calypso" or some other name? If it detects as this (the name) you may find that it is not a software issue at all, but a firmware issue. http://www.pcbsearch.com.au

    Raid 5 Data Recovery

Agree fully with wjlight. RAID is only good for hardware failures. It lulls people into a false sense of security where they think they are covered, then you get a software corruption. Backup, backup and backup. http://www.pcbsearch.com.au
