    Is there any way to define a object style with x/y coordinates? I have to manually move objects throughout a 500+ page book and didn't know if it is possible to define coordinates via an object style. Any thoughts?

    I was hopeful by the links, but after testing IndexMatic, it does not capture the entire name. Because the names are defined by a paragraph style (due to imported data), a first name and the last name are separate entries and are listed as such in the resulting output. Any other suggestions?

    You might take a look at the Automation - Data Merge capability. I have only tested it, thou it did populate graphic frames and you can define how images are fitted; whether to link or embed.

    Have you tried quitting InDesign and restarting. Sometimes I get erratic behaviour if I do not restart several times a week. Also, you might want to do a Save As to clean out any hidden "agenda." Another thought, are you using linked text frames? Maybe something is not visible.
