Do not add the default gateway to the /etc/defaults/rc.conf file. That file is for the defaults only, instead add the gateway to the /etc/rc.conf file. It should exist, but if it does not, make one and add the gateway.
The /etc/default/rc.conf file is exec first on boot and the /etc/rc.conf...
Maybe this can be helpful, from the the Unix Command Compendium,
sed '/--*$/{n;/^$/d;}' file_name
This example deletes blank lines that follow the first regular expression--which, for example purposes, consists of two or more hyphens. The n command tells sed to process the line following this...
I agree with you in principle. You will have to know the basics of what you are doing to use Freebsd successfully. In that regard, some of the Linux versions have easier to understand install interfaces.
As a simple user desktop, with basic apps installed, Linux is ok for a starter. The...
Check your /etc/resolv.conf file. Your domain must be set and the first name server should be either the loopback or localhost 127.0.0.1 or 0.0.0.0
This should take care of your resolving problems.
What would the configuration or the named.conf and domain files look like for a webserver who is hosting 200 different domains, most with the same ip. These are virtual hosts under apache and freebsd 3.2 (if that matters)
You should try System Commander for your boot manager needs.
It is by far the easiest boot manager I've found so far.
I manage a production house with 30+ pcs dual booting between NT4 and Solaris. It works great. SYS. Com. can handle as many OSs as you can through at it. And will boot...
