Thanx guys, for the discussion till now. I wasn't going to go into details, but here it is.
I have need of a second phone line. I was looking at "MagicJack" as a cheap solution to this. For those of you that don't know, it uses a usb adapter to hook up a normal telephone to a computer to allow...
You're right, I wasn't thinking of computer security, but of home security, i.e. pc based home security system.
Ok, Please explain this to me: How did you get this ide drive hooked up to a usb port to be the booting drive? I've got spare full sized pc drives that I an put in enclosures / or...
Thank you for your response, vacunita.
2 reasons:
1: expense, as far as I know, laptop internal hard drives are more expensive then then internals for pc's
2: time and patience. I've worked on laptops before, but I don't like the idea of having to tear this unit apart ( again ) to replace the...
Hello,
I have a Winbook Si laptop:
800mhz
256M ram
internal floppy drive good
internal hard drive shot
internal cd rom shot.
I was wondering if I got external storage ( what kind? ) how would I get this unit to boot Windows XP from it?
I already know that the bios will not directly support...
The only problem that I was having with Outlook and AVG was that Outlook was converting any graphic email coming from Hotmail to text. Your solution seems to have solved my problem so far.
You may be right that disableing the plugin as don suggests will disable the anti virus capability...
So you looked in the add-in manager of outlook and the plugin is not there?
--->>> My apologies, I misunderstood your post, and thought you were pointing me around in the AVG program. Don't ask why, but Outlook didn't occure to me. Kudos to you bud, it seems to be working so far, but I'll be...
Thanx for your response, Don, but I'm using AVG Free ver 8, and can't find any reference to Exchange at all. Besides, this issue isn't with Exchange, it's primarily with Hotmail, unless Hotmail is using the Exchange format for their post office?

Ok... this might turn to a long message but please bear with me:
Windows XP Home SP3
Outlook 2003
( I also have AVG Free 8 that I'm really leary of turning off the mail scanner, what with all the email fraud out there )
I find this situation typical with email that comes in from Hotmail...
You might be right, thing is when you look at Linksys's website, they seem to make a distinction between equipment that they market with "fax capability" ( PAP2 and like ) and equipment without ( the unit I have, the RT31P2 )
OK, and I by no means mean to be questioning your experience, heck...
No problem.... did a little more digging and got:
Linksys "Tech Support" says that the RT31P2 ( what I got from PhonePower ) will not at all support fax over IP.
I just looked at PhonePower's website, and they are now featuring a Grandstream HT 502, that Grandstream's website says will support...
Ok,
My Provider Phonepower is of no help. I called them earlier today, and all the support person said was that they were not at this time supporting Fax over IP, but that they "might" starting Q3 this year.
That's a bit long.
Any ideas?
Thanx Brian,
Ok, Let's presume I'm new to this and don't know much about the components of a VOIP network.
What is an ATA? What does it look like? Where can I get one (cheaply, I hope? Money is at a premium at the moment)? Speaking of which what price range should I expect it?
Thanx again...
Hi,
I've heard too many times that it's not possible. But I'm a possibilities kinda person. I would like to hear how IT IS possible
HOW can I use a fax machine both sending and receiving over a voip connection?
I have:
HP OfficeJet 6110 MultiFunction printer.
Brighthouse is my ISP...
Hello,
This is going to be extensive, but I figure better to have more information than not enough.
I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with:

Running Windows XP Home with SP2.
Recently I was given a Dimension 4700 with:

smah,
I have a Linksys WRT54G v6 and the newest version is 1.01.1 ... I'm not sure that will help you. My point was it might help to check the website for your brand and model information for your equipment to see if you need any updates.
Thanx again, Fotoman!
Ron V.
