Error downloading codec for downloaded video files?!?!?!?

If you're still having problems, grab GSpot at http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ - it'll let you know what codecs are needed for the file... http://www.ivyrains.com/

Getting rid of WinXP Folder Icons...

Linney - Thanks for the info on the View as Web Page... As for the icons - yes, I mix & match the Thumbnails and Details views - my gripe is: if I Thumbnail view a folder with many files, and also many sub-folders, the folders get the preview skins, which among other things makes my HD grind...

Getting rid of WinXP Folder Icons...

Hi - got a couple of quick XP Home questions: 1.) How do I get rid of the content icons on folders in Windows Explorer? 2.) Is there a way to make Explorer view files as Web Page, a la Win98? I deal with tons of graphics files, and the View as Web Page was one of the best features of 98...

Bios not detecting hard drive after reformat.

Hi... I posted a reply to your question in the Win forum, and this is a follow-up - all the Asus A7V's I've seen have VIA controllers; I think the -R suffixes are the only boards that have the Promise chipset, and yet you're not using RAID - maybe a conflict going on? May pay you to grab the...

Bios not detecting hard drive after reformat.

Hi... I know you touched on it already, but I've seen some WEIRD problems from IDE cables - if you're still foundering, replace the ribbon cable, and check out the pwr supply cable, too (another source of funky symptoms)... John http://robofactory.mybravenet.com/ "A Mind Is A Terrible...

Win 98 disk cleanup Cleanmgr "illegal operation" message

Hi... IMHO, Disk Cleanup is crap - it's occasionally unstable, and there are plenty of better freebie/cheap replacements out there (EasyCleaner, UnInstaller, et al)...ditch it and get you a good manager... John http://robofactory.mybravenet.com/ "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing..."

Windows 98 freezes sometimes during surfing the net

Hi... One thing you guys might try is putting your systems on a good UPS with a regulator - often I've had these UI or ghost problems, and it turned out to be spikes or a ground loop...one key symptom to look for in a power supply problem is Occam's Razor: "Eliminate the Impossible, and...

Is it possible to password protect a folder?

Hi... There are several free utilities out there, such as DMagic, Encryption Plus, HideFolders, Locker, etc...do a Google, or go to NONAGS or CNET... John http://robofactory.mybravenet.com/ "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing..."

    Re-installing Windows

Reply to DellComputerUser: Agree with you about ME, but, seeing as how this is a "Win95/98 Forum", I was referring to Win95/98 - IMHO, WinME is the worst thing Gates has done for quite a while...

    Anyone recommend maintainance software?

Hi... I agree with Eguy - the Belarc Advisor is a good program - we use it to keep track of our test systems configurations... John http://robofactory.mybravenet.com/ "The Mind Is A Terrible Thing..."

Reply to Leptonite: I've never had any problems re-installing - all of your applications, programs, data, etc., are unaffected by the reinstallation... John http://robofactory.mybravenet.com/

    Re-installing Windows

Hi... I've noticed a lot of users are unaware of a very easy and safe solution to a multitude of Windows problems - just re-install Windows! Layering Windows on top of itself (by inserting your Windows CD and clicking 'Setup') gives you a fresh install, without the hassle of formatting your...

    DirectX81

Hi... You might try a Google search for DirectX uninstallers - there was one named DirectXUninst, but I think it only worked for Win95 - there may be newer versions available... Also - don't understand why you can't reinstall Windows - in BIOS, change your boot sequence to CDRom as the first...
