Does PM 7 import Quark 4.1 well?

Hi efunds, Yes, PageMaker 7.0 comes with a Quark Xpress 4.1 converter. It also comes with Distiller which would allow you to create a PDF out of Word (Just print to the Acrobat Distiller printer) - Adobe Bob

PM 7 opens with a library

If you are referring to the template pallette then there is a checkbox that should say something like, "Show this windows next time PageMaker opens" Check that box and next time PageMaker opens, the template windows should not be there. -Adobe Bob

But in older OS's like Windows 95/98/ME, in order to install Type 1 fonts, you must download Adobe Type Manager from http://www.adobe.com...

    cent and degree characters?

You can also get a full list of the characters with a PageMaker template that is included with 6.5 and 7.0, I'm not sure if it's included in PM 6.0. The template is called charset.pmt. Do a search for it in your PM Extras folder and open it in PageMaker, then follow the instructions. - Adobe Bob

    transparent image backgrounds

I also agree that it is not the best workflow to use a JPEG. Tiff's are far better for print output. It's just that I stumbled on that feature and found out it was a transparent JPEG and had no idea how it was being accomplished, but thought I'd at least share it with everyone. - Adobe Bob

Yes, the 'clipping path' in JPEG's is available in PS 6.0. I'm not sure about it being available in 7, although I'm installing that today. - Adobe Bob

    PM won't open

There are a couple other solutions but like viol8ion mentioned, they are all related to fonts. For more info, go to this document - http://pagemakersupport.adobe.com/adobeknowbase/root/public/pm1004.htm - Adobe Bob

    transparent image backgrounds

Actually, if you have a JPEG and go to Help>Make Transparent Image and select the Print option, this will allow you to apply a clipping path that is transparent in PageMaker. It appears to work with JPEGs, TIFFs and EPS files. I know some of you might find it hard to believe that a jpeg can...

KERNEL32.DLL error when closing Pagemaker 6.5 PC

Go to Start, Run, type regedit. Then browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Adobe, Media Browser. On the right hand side should be a Plugins key. Delete it. If this does not work, pull out the pictpal.add and scrptpal.add from C:\Program Files\Adobe\PM65\RSRC\Usenglsh\Plugins - Adobe Bob
