System State backup errors with R12 SP1

Hi, same problem with a 2003 server, it reported this error during backup. It appears to be the system writer which has got itself in a pickle. Logon onto the remote server and in the command prompt type; vssadmin list writers take a look and see if the system writer is listed, if not then...

    what to backup

Thanks for the information, Arcserve does have an agent but it does the same as the stsadm util pretty much, no file level restore....yet. It's looking like I do not need the sharepoint agent as I could just use the stsadm util and an SQL agent to do the databases on a nightly basis. I will...

    what to backup

Hi there, I have a v3 of sharepoint, web application is on one server and the SQL is on a remote server. I am really confused as to what I should be backing up. I mainly use Arcserve and have the relevant client installed but I also run a stsadm script once a week prior the full backup from...

can mx records be entered in host file?

Hi there, I have my ISP DNS servers listed in my TCP properties and would like to know if it is possible to get the mail routed to a local server without going upstream first? I would prefer not to change my existing DNS situation if possible. I know there is a way to do this for computer...

    optimise transferring data

I have recently changed the NICs/ports to full 1000 but this did not make a difference. I have now enabled the write cache on the remote server(sata disks) as this seems to be the bottle neck. Will keep you informed on its progress.

    optimise transferring data

Unforunately the hardware is already in place so I cannot do much about this at the moment. I can tell you that the primary server has SCSI disk in RAID 10 running at 15k rpm. The secondary is a sata array in RAID6ADG, these disk are running at 7.2k. The RAID controller on both servers is a...

    optimise transferring data

Hi there, The answers to your suggestions are; Yes, the data is being moved overnight. Unfortunately I cannot zip them up as the files maybe needed to restore data, so this is out of the question. I have tried connecting the servers with a crossover cable and this made a slight improvement...

    optimise transferring data

Hi there, I need to move a large amount of small files on a weekly basis and would like to optimise this process. I currently use robocopy to copy the files across to a secondary server, both servers are HP DL380 G4 with Gig cards teamed. The servers are connected into a Cisco 2970 switch and...

    gpt disks

Do you know if there is any performance issues with the more partitions used?

    gpt disks

OK, thanks but it did not answer my question :( Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, If a GPT partition is already in place but is running out of drive space, can another GPT disk be glued to the existing disk to give it more drive space? Scalability is the word here!!

    gpt disks

Hi there, does anyone know whether it is possible to add extra drive space to a partition which has been created using GPT disks in Windows 2003 SP1. Basically, we are looking at a 2TB GPT partition, we would then want to increase this to 4TB at a later date, is this possible or do we have to...
