740 uses color toner to emulate black
Late answer, but might help someone else. The fast color setting uses only the three process colors, and is 25% faster becauses it does not use black. To get true blacks, you must choose, Standard, Presentation, or Premium (if printer has upgrade kit).- Rich1800
