You might also try rebooting the server and try the Last Known good Configuration on boot up. This should (microsoft!!!) restore the registry to the state it was in when you had the last successful log in.

I think fatesWebb might be right. Most laptops have special function buttons on the keyboard to switch between the LCD, external display, both or none at all. Try looking up your documentation to see if it mentions this

Win98 and cdrom drives- constant problems!!! bobtektip, you don't say what type of machine you're running but if you go to your manufaturers website, you can normally download an Intel Chipset Update for Windows 98. This is usually excellent at solving these problems. Once you run the chipset...
Internet Explorer (and other programs that create large temporary files) may not start or may generate error messages, even if there is enough RAM available. Such programs check for the ability to create a swap file as needed and may not run if this cannot be done. This error message can also...
If you have a second hard drive move the pagefile off the c: drive and onto the other drive. Having the pagefile on the c: drive tends to slow the operating system when the pagefile is in use. Also when setting the pagefile size you must choose a min and max size. If your server is running slow...
2cool is right, the hard disk utilities are in the utilities section of bootdisk.com. It makes no difference if your disk is IDE or SCSI. If you can't find the LLF on this site you can download one for free from your drive manufacturer's web site.
hi imms50
slaving a drive means what you said in your post. If the disk has ntfs, connect it to another system with ntfs and set the drive as a slave. that way you can view and edit the boot.ini file of your problem disk in another computer
just another note, if you have the 3 nt disks and an emergency repair disk you could try booting off the 3 nt disks and selecting the repair option, it'll bring you back to the state the server was in when the repair disk was last updated. it would save you having to rebuild the server.
did you try loading the last known good configuration by pressing space bar on boot up and pressing L or D. As long as you haven't logged in since making all these changes then resetting the last known good configuration should bring the registry back to a stage before you made all these...
to make sure you are connecting to your DHCP server, go to the command prompt on your win95 client and type winipcfg. This will tell you if have received an IP address from your server. If not try releasing and renewing. If a new address appears then your connection is ok and so is your DHCP...

Hi, I can't say that I've come across your exact problem before but I believe that your initial system failure and the problems you are currently expieriencing are both related to your hard disk. I have been as perplexed as you are by some problems I have come across.
