where can I find a simple tutorial and example of OPC?
Look up a company called Kepware (www.Kepware.com). They create OPC (GOOD!) Servers. Their download contains a limited runtime, but fully functional set of Servers plus some excellent VB examples of communicating with the servers along with documentation.
