Ther is also another tool that will let you check and see what software is installed on each machine, its called Dameware, you check it out for thirty days and it can be downloaded from http://www.dameware.com. It does more than just being able to check on the software it also allows you to do...
It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, but the network monitor that comes with NT Server is not a bad place to start, and best of all its free. Also it depends on what kind of network monitoring you want to do. Do you want to see how much traffic is on your network or just...
Another difference is how much time do you want the system to be down while you do a restoration. With incremental like Gazt said just backs up the data that has changed since your last normal backup. Which means that in order to restore your data you need to restore the last normal backup and...
I'm not rebooting the system when this happens, and I don't believe that the cmos battery is dead, because just the date changes and not the time. This happened yesterday 9/15/02 at about 1PM. I have atomic clock installed on the system, but from time to time it can't reach the time server...
Every 30 days or so my NT4 server's system date will change to the privous date. The server is being used as my Exchange 5.5 server and all security patches are up to date and SP6a is installed.
Sounds like your ROM chip, where your bio's is stored is dead. Without a system bio's your server is just a door stop. Did anything happen before your server crashed?
There are three files on Exchange 5.5 that can not be backed up while the exchange services are running these are the priv.edb, dir.edb, pub.edb. You can only backup these files by stopping the exchange services. Once you have done a full off line backup, you should then be able to just backup...
I have tryed to correct my connector settings but it gives me an error, the error is failure to load MS extention. I am now trying to do a full restore from tape then restore the stores from my full backup today.
I have looked at the MS Mail Connector services in Exchange and I have noticed that it is not working. I am useing Backup Exec 8.5 with Exchange Agent installed, now this is just a thought what if I restore exchange from my last full back up. Will this destroy or modify data base stores or will...
My Exchange 5.5 server will not send or receive external e-mail only internal. The only that has changed has been the addition of SMTP to this server. Help me please!!!!!!!!!!
Ever since we were infected by the Nimda virus OWA is inaccessible. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled OWA, nothing. Other than completely reloading NT4.0 and Exchange 5.5 any suggestions on what I can do. HELP
Try to exclude all files and folders and *.dll's associated with printing from being scanned by your antivirus. I did this almost two month's ago and haven't had any problems since.[2thumbsup]
I excluded all printer associated *.dll's and folder as discribed about, and it has worked so far. I will let everyone know if I have anymore problems. Thanks to everyone for their input and support.s-)

I am running norton antivirus, and I am also running a virus scan useing Veritas Backup Exec 8.5, prior to doing any backups on this server. The only thing that I don't understand is that my other print server has never lost any printers, just this one server. They are both running the same...
