You will also have to check your BIOS power managemnt settings to allow the os to shutdown machince. If your BIOS is obviously able to do so.

Also need valid drivers for sound card, networkcard if any, video(graphic card etc etc

right click on the folders you are trying to share and click sharing. On xp machince make sure the security is at default ie everyone. (Thats the easist option anyway without confusing matters.)
