Greetings,
Currently, I am using mii-tool to check my current characteristic of my NIC interface. Also, I am using ethtool to configure my NIC setting (100Mbps Full Duplex), etc. These settings will not stick after a reboot. Is there a way for me to set the NIC interface permanently?
Thank...

Greetings,
When I run ifconfig on my Linux server, I see a lot of collisions on the interface eth0, which caused sessions to disconnect and kicked out users. However, my Cisco switch is not registering any collisions. I have the port on the Cisco switch set to 100Mbps full-duplex. How do I...
Hi,
You must be talking about IBM servers. You might want to look into the 'IBM director' software package or talk to your IBM support rep for their recommendations.
By the way, the Xseries 455 will be phasing out with the new P5 servers in 12/2004
I am glad I went with HP Itanium running RH...
If you have a SANs environment, you can use 'tar' utility to back up your files once the SANs drive is mounted. You can simply backup your SANs drive when you feel like it. You will also have a 'recovery' process in place as well. If you want, I can send you tar backup script that I'm...
I also would like to know "how to". I am running RH AS 2.1 at the moment. I have configured a RAID5 (4x73GB) with numerous partitions and now one of the partitions is too small. My intention is to add another 73GB drive to my existing RAID5 and extend the particular small partition. I do...
Log in as 'root" and modify your the limits.conf file; example:
oracle soft nofile 65536
oracle hard nofile 65536
oracle soft nproc 16384
I would not use * - You want to exclude everyone except for oracle user.
Let us know.
Greetings,

Okay, I give up! I looked and modified my network device "eth0" with the correct IP, Netmask, and Gateway. The only the way for me to make the default gateway to work is to set it on the fly by 'add route default gw 192.168.xx.xx dev eth0' But this setting will not stick after a...
Greetings,
I was getting a lot of "errno24 - Too many open files" during my batch process. I increased the number of open files to 15,360 from the default of 1024. The problem seems to went away. However, something telling me that I might be missing some other parameters that should been...
Greetings to all the Linux gurus,
I am new to Linux, but I am learning and enjoying it the same time. I am currently running Linux AS 2.1 and have an inventory software running. This is pretty much a shell application. Okay, here are my stupid questions;
1. When all these users log in and use...
All I'm trying to do is backing up a dump file from the Oracle DB. Is "Rsync" is easy to use? Do you have a sample script or command on how to implement the rsync?
Thanks for your response.
Q
Hi - This question have been often asked, but I can't resist asking again. I am about to put up a Red Hat Linux 2.8 Advance Server as a DB server running Oracle 9i. I know that Oracle has this utility RMAN that they can do hot backup right to a NFS directory on a local box. This is not what I...
