>You need to set a gateway on the server.
nsantin, sure enough, we just completely overlooked the gateway being blank, somehow. thanks a lot!
>aslo from ur diagram it looks like your servers are
>sitting out side ur firewall not a good idea
wazzup2474, thats why my original post said "there is...
We've recently set up a Windows 2003 server, but cannot figure out why it is completely unreachable from outside of our local network, and I can assure that it is not a firewall issue.
The line from our ISP leads into a switch, that connects to our servers (the win2k3 server, a winnt 4.0...
the memory seems ok, it boots into a linux livecd fine, and ive ran several diagnostics (MEMTEST86+, etc). ive switched out the hard drive, and nothing. i think ive found the problem though.
during POST, it prints out the devices and their respective addresses (i guess on the IRQ or the bus)...
well, I reset the CMOS, but the problem is persisting. I've run a couple of bootable linux diagnostic CDs, and they start up fine, the problem only occurs with windows. i'm thinking mabye the problem is the hard disk, or the IDE cable for the disk.
Not totally sure whether this should go here or in Hardware...I have a machine running Windows 2000, and it's been in use for over a month. Nothing has been installed or changed recently, and it worked fine this morning, but now every time it boots, it shows the initial monochrome windows...
well, i've ordered a new mobo now, anyway, so as soon as it arrives, i'll try the venture again. i think i'm going to remove the brass standoffs and replace them with plastic ones, then secure the motherboard with just the embossed mounts.
really, thanks for all the help from everyone. i...
yes, SP4 is installed, along with all relevant security updates.
i also ran seagate's seatools online diagnostic program, and the drive itself tested out perfectly fine, but on a filesystem test, it gave me the error that it couldnt find a filesystem...
i figure if i can just recover the data...
seems ive been asking for help here a lot lately. :)
anyway, i just switched motherboards (from a SOYO brand), where i was using a 120gb seagate as my primary master (running win2k), and a 160gb seagate as my primary slave.
on the new mobo (an ASUS), i'm using a 70gb ibm as primary master...
I know that none of the drives were touching the mobo, not sure about the i/o backplate though. my motherboard (right now) is kind of a p.o.s anyway, it's a SOYO SY-P4I865PE, here's a pic:
i've been planning on getting a new mobo soon, for the time being though ive moved everything back into...
ok, here's what im gonna try then. i have a sheet of this foam that hardware always comes packed in, and i was gonna cut a mobo-sized piece out, then use a punch to put the 9 screw holes in it.
well, everyone was right (thank god for you guys), mobo runs fine outside of said case...but HOW can i fix this problem when i dont even know what's causing it? heres a pic of the mobo tray:
as you can see, there are 6 mount points that are kind of....built in. normally i'd use nothing but...
ok, i tried screwdriver instead of pwr button thing. no luck. tried disconnecting EVERYTHING except the psu and mobo. no luck. I swapped out for another psu. no luck.
i think it must be a grounding issue with the mobo. thing is, im not really sure how to fix something like that...the case...
I bought a new case for my computer and moved everything over, and now when I hook it up and hit the power switch, nothing happens except the blue LED fan on my power supply flashes for a moment (but doesnt spin up) and an LED on my motherboard lights up (marked cryptically in the mobo manual as...
i contacted my isp and that's the problem, all right. so i do indeed need a router rather than a switch. thanks for the help, guys. i really appreciate it!
