The router is new and does support IPSEC passthru. Changing the Router IP address was the variable that allowed the VPN to work. Apparently the standard linksys ip address 192.168.1.1 can conflict with other network router ip's on the other end of the vpn tunnel.
Help! I can connect my PC via SonicWall VPN Global client if I go directly thru my cable modem. However, if I try to connect behind a Linksys router (WRT54GS or BEFVP41 V2) I have trouble. Here's what happens: I can establish a proper "connect" when I start the SonicWall Global VPN Client...
Sorry, now I understand what you are trying to do. The WRT54G MUST be wired to the internet to work. Is there a reason that you can't use the WRT54G by itself or in combo with the BEFW11S4? Unless you live in the Taj Mahal the range of the WRT54G should allow you to gain access anywhere in your...
I assume the BEFW11S4 is cat 5 wired to the WRT54G. If so try the following: The default IP address for both routers is 192.168.1.1 and since you cannot have two identical IP addresses you will need to change one. Connect the WRT54G to your computer only and get into the router setup screen...

I had been doing a lot of web surfing that day. That evening I noticed the computer freeze-up when it went into screen saver mode. The HDD would make a series of clicks and then pause. This would go on and on requiring a hard reboot to stop it. This same computer freeze with an endless cycle of...
I had the same problem once. Here's what I did to fix it. Look in the manual and see if there is a jumper that will reset the bios to factory default. Move the jumper to reset the bios then move the jumper back so that the MoBo will boot up. You'll have to reflash the bios to the most recent...
Here's how I did it:
1. You need a router. There a lots of good routers out there, I use a linksys. The router allows you to connect more than one computer to dsl at a time and it also provides some firewall protection.
2. connect your dsl modem to the router then run ethernet cabling to each...
What should I use for backup?
System is a single PC with 120 GB HDD.
CD or DVD backup seems too small for this.
Tape drives seem about the same as hard drive.
Would another hard drive (external or internal) be a better choice than tape?
If tape then what is a cost effective solution?
Thanks for your help. Raid 0 with some other type of backup looks like the way to go.
I'm looking for a good tape backup but so far the price for a backup drive and tapes isn't that much different than just buying a 3rd "low performing" hdd and using it for backups. Any recs on a good...
