    Help Identifying Cisco Parts

If you're committed to disposing of them, photograph them and put them onto eBay, one auction per item - that way you'll get whatever the market thinks they're worth and not have to worry about whether or not you're getting a good deal...

restricting LAN access to a known pool of devices

Thank you ccmuser for your comment. Do the two newer technologies you are moving to go hand in hand to replace VMPS, or is 802.1x a replacement for VMPS? If all you wanted to do was to "shut the door" on unknown devices connecting to your LAN, would you still be able to do it without VMPS?

restricting LAN access to a known pool of devices

Thanks, baddos. Interesting reading - also covered in the software config guide for the 2900XL/3500XL series switches (back to IOS 12.0(5)XU release). Back to the original question - has anyone tried to use VMPS? Feedback I've received is that it's "barely supported". Any CCIE's or net...

    catalyst 6006 & 6509

Do you mean the 2 GBIC ports on each supervisor on a Cat6500? I don't know about the 6006, but using 2 6500's with dual sup-II's, configured in "high availability" mode (ie one supII in standby, one active), it's possible to create a single 4Gbps channel between both switches by linking the...

restricting LAN access to a known pool of devices

Sorry for the confusion - I meant that there would need to be a documented process or system to make it fairly easy for the network admins to add new devices to the pool of "known good" devices, after screening and patching, etc. VPMS would work - is it supported on the 3500-series, and is...

restricting LAN access to a known pool of devices

I have a bit of a challenge for those used to operating a network in a semi-secure environment: What is the most efficient way to restrict access to the LAN to only "known" MAC Addresses, in a LAN driven by Cisco 3500-series switches at the edge? Blocking of IP Addresses at a consolidation...

EMC SAN vs Network Appliance NAS?

I'd be interested to know how you managed the decision between EMC and Netapp... is there any material you'd be willing to share, eg technology comparison, review material or decision analysis? With EMC, you're looking not just at different storage technologies (eg Clariion vs Symmetrix) but...

    CCNA done/Need CCNP info

I found some info related to the sequence in which the CCNP Preparation Library material should be tackled: 1. CIT, then 2. BSCN, then 3. BCRAN, and finally 4. BCMSN. (5. Look on Cisco Press website for newer topic, IS-IS). Now how does this fit in with the 4-volume CCNP Certification library...?

dos client with TCP/IP protocoll in a novell netware network

Follow this thread over on: thread75-122110 a good head of steam (or stream of bits?) building up there on IP-only clients in NW5.x and later environments.

IP DOS Boot disk for NetWare 5

I thought I'd share some of the links related to this, especially as I am part-way to getting a working IP-only stack (NLM based) for use in a NW5.1 environment. 1st, from Novell (don't let the title fool you!): http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/netware/features/trenches/tr_dos_nw6.html...

    CCNA done/Need CCNP info

Does anyone have a clear path (book title, author and date of publication/ISBN) of the books from Cisco Press that are required for this? Since they changed to the -6xx codes recently, I am not sure if the "BCRAN" book (for example) now 3 or 4 years old, is still "up to...

IP DOS Boot disk for NetWare 5

Thank you, TheLad - your solution, and how it operates in a test environment, will be tried later this week. If you like, I can keep you posted. It is hoped that adopting an IP-only approach will enhance the resilience of DOS clients to a brief "interruption to service" outage, as...
