i am back on the net!
I set the tcp/ip to a static IP and put the default gateway address in, and that at last got me into the router, which I had not been able to access before from the browser.
My machine wasn't in the client table, which wasn't suprising since the router had not assigned...
ahh, ps, something I forgot to say.
When I look at the Network Connections page, the icon for the Ethernet card has a little padlock symbol next to it. And when I do ipconfig/all, I get my card IP details, such as they are, and then the Teledo Tunnel thingy underneath - which I looked up...
...while renewing interface pawz connection: The RPC server is unavailable"
this is the message I get when I go into Command and type in ipconfig /renew. The OS is XP SP2.
The network is up for all the other machines. The last thing I did was uninstall and remove ALL Symantec files, including...
Hi Gavin, ah, I never thought of that, yes. I am about to put one of these in a Windows ME machine today, if it doesn't work then yes, I will go to the Intel site and get a generic driver, good idea, thanks.
Part of the problem (sometimes)I found is that if I
tried to re-install the software...
yes adrian - this fell under incompatible hardware I think.
I wonder what other folk think of the 56k modems with an Intel chipset.
I have two of them and both cause me more aggravation than any other internal modem I have put in. That is why I still have them; every customer machine I put...
Sorry all, I posted this message on the end of another thread (when is dead really dead?) by mistake when I meant it to be a new thread, so for those of you who have noticed that, you are not seeing double...

A friend asked me to look at his computer (XP SP2) because it would not boot and he was concerned that there was data on there that he needed.
I brought it home and got nowhere with recovery console, so slaves it to another system running XP to get his docs before trying anything else.
As...
ah, I think maybe the problem is to do with dialup tcp. The 'your network is not complete' messages are to do with dialup I think, and this is a Broadband router setup. Speedtouch 500 and AOL as the ISP. There is a modem installed in the machine but not connected of course, yet I saw Rnaapp in...
We visited friends today to deliver a monitor. We are not stopping I said - fatal.
The network was fine (two Win 98, one XP)but could we have a look at the laptop as that could access the web but not see the other computers.
I hadn't touched the laptop (Win 2000)when we had recently got the...
yes Ed, good point.
I have made notes about how to get it up again and what configuration details to look for when I am in, and the IP address so I can call it up from whatever machine I am working from, but as you say, next time I go I ought to make a more thorough job of it.
thank you :)
Hi Bill.
I did wonder about a factory default type reset but wasn't brave enough to try as it wasn't my network ( although we did successfully set it up, with AOL's help about a year back) and I am not yet knowledgeable enough about adsl routers to confidently revert to defaults and then...
hello Rick, I am happy to say that the problem has been fixed, and that it was because (somehow) the router configuration had been changed from PPPoA to DHCP_Spoof, and this last permits only one broadband connection, which is why there were no IP's for the other network cards available. Quite...
hello all frustrated and frazzled Gracie here.
About a year ago we helped some friends set up an AOL Broadband network (we did try to persuade them to go for some other ISP, but as they were already using AOL, they preferred not to change).
All has been fine until the other day, when...there...
