I can't se how it can affect the life of the drive, the TapeRx software just varies the speed at which the tape can physically work at. Similar to a cd burner. All i have done is set it to the maximum write speed that it can physically do and its within the manufacturers specification.
Its not...
After much searching and trawling of various sites. I found the answer. The Dell drive we use is a Seagate Ultrium06242, on seagate web site you can download an application called TapeRx. This can set some configurable options on the LTO drive, one of them being Tape Speed, which i set to 16MB...
We've just added an new Dell LTO 110 to or Dell Dimension server and installed Arcserve Brightstor 11.

I'm having a problem backing up our Domino Server. We have Domino Server running on a Windows 2K server and being backup up using Arcserve. The hardware we are using is an Archos Dat drive with DDS4 tapes.
Our nightly backups stop at 19.6GB and look for another tape to finish backing up the...
It stops writing to the first tape, and looks for a second tape. The actual data backed up is 19.6GB in real disk size. So its not compressing anything. I'm going to try backing up the same data from a different server to see if it could possibly be a problem with the physical DAT drive on the...
Hi David
It's 19.6 GB written to tape. It looks like it stops as soon as it get to a rather large mail file (1.2GB). The tapes are definatly DDS4 20/40. I've tried a few brand new tapes also , which rules out the bad block theory.
So i'm still sort of stumped.
Cheers for the reply though !
Paul
