Does active directory install by defualt? Can 2012 act as a standalone?

it does NOT install AD by default. It is a role that you have to specifically install.

Disk patritions on a EUFI based server

Hi Guys, Building my first server 2012 on a Dell PowerEdge T620 with a EUFI bios. I'm a bit confused about the disk partitons.... I let the OS DVD create the partitions and at the install stage I can see a 300MB recovery, a 100MB system partition and a 128MB MSR (reserved) partition. After...

recovering mail from edb and stm files

Thanks 58Sniper. I was always under the impression that ontrack were horrendously expensive. Even if they are, the client might just have to pay it if the data is that important. Cheers

recovering mail from edb and stm files

Hello all! I've been asked to help a company with a DR situation on a SBS2003. The company was stopping the information store service every night, copying out the MDBdata folder and then starting the service. Server died and the NT bacups for the OS were no good. Moved them to SBS2011 on new...

SBS2011 and Blackberry enterprise server express?

Makes sense Mark, i've recommended Active Sync phones but the client wants BB.... Ah well.... :)

SBS2011 and Blackberry enterprise server express?

Thanks Mark, very helpfull. I'm always against installing 3rd party apps on the SBS as I like my servers clean.... Any reason for in particular for android over BB? I'd rather avoid BBs altoghether TBH but the client wants them. Cheers Paul.

    Premium addons and CALs?

sorry to drag this up but I have a question... If I only prchase premium for the second OS license (I won't be using SQL) do I still need premium CALS or will the STD ones do? Thanks, Paul

SBS2011 and Blackberry enterprise server express?

Thanks Mark, that's a good FAQ. Do you think it's a good idea to have BES on the SBS or would you always put it on its own server OS? I've never dealt with BES so don't want to learn by my mistakes! Client requires a RDS too, BESE doesn't install on a RDS (Ok, there's ways round it but it's...

SBS2011 and Blackberry enterprise server express?

I'm with you on the BES side! I'd be installing a Hyper-V host then having a virtual SBS, no way would I instal Hyper-V on an SBS, in fact, I think you can't... Cheers, Paul.

Migrating Exchange from SBS 2000 to SBS 2008

you could also try a swing migration, http://www.sbsmigration.com/ Personally, with a setup this old, i'd start from a fresh. Even a 50 user network can be done from scratch in a weekend with the right prep and another pair of hands.

    Mail server advice

You could also use a 3rd party like Own Web Now who filter your mail for viruses and spam then forward on your emails to your on-premise mailserver. Part of the service is that if you have issues effecting your on-premise server you can log into OWA that they provide and view all externally sent...

SBS2011 and Blackberry enterprise server express?

Thanks for the reply! Just because the docs say it can do it doesn't mean it's a good idea :) I've heard of a few reliability problems with BES and if this is true then i'd rather not install it on a SBS. Setup will be a Hyper-V Host with a SBS2011 and a RDS. There are also BES issues on a RDS...
