Just wanted to share the resolution of this problem in case it might help someone else.
I dcpromo'd the server to demote it to a stand-alone server. Still could only get the original four workstations to connect. I removed and reinstalled all the networking components on the server and...
I can ping 127.0.0.1 on the server successfully. I can also ping the server's ip from other stations, even those that can't login to the domain. I can successfully ping workstation ip's from the server.
I can't ping to or from the server by name.
I can successfully log on to all the local workstations, but can only connect to the domain from the four.
I can only, however, logon to the domain from the four functional machines. I have analyzed and verified and duplicated the tcp/ip and dns settings. I have tried to log in from the...
Further info: netdiag /v fails the WINS server and DNS entires. The ISP's DNS servers fail but that's not surprising since it can't get out to the net. Other netdiag tests seem to be what you would expect.
Ideas? TCP/IP stacks, winsock, dnscache?
A mix. Four of my workstations can connect. I have tried logging in to the non-connecting workstations as one of the users that is functional, with no success. Only an original user at his/her original workstation can connect.
I suspect an AD error. I can't ping any other boxes from the...
I have been called to repair a small network, 1 Win2k Server that is the PDC and only DC for the network and runs SQL Server 2000 as well. Workstations include Win 98, Win 2k and XP Pro.
They experienced a power failure two days ago. The system shut down via the UPS and seemed to restart...
I have a client that uses a SQL database system. They have a field / column that is a blob that contains paragraphs of text. They need to be able to search within those fields for strings of text and return the value of a second field as a result of that search.
Is there a reporting function...
I recently applied SP4 and all recommended (by Microsoft's website) to a Windows 2000 Professional workstation. The system seems to be running fine but I have a situation / condition I've never seen before.
The "X" in the upper right corner is unavailable (grayed out) in any program...
I have a client that runs a SmartSuite Ver 9 multi-user system that was developed by someone long before my involvement. The program suite is installed on each workstation but uses a SmartMaster file from the file server.
One of the features of the package is a keyword selection list that they...
I am trying to add an exclusion to a workstation accessing files from a Windows 2000 server. The server filename has hyphens in the name. I get an error message "invalid filename" when I try and exclude anything on the server. Is NAV intolerant of hyphenated filenames? NAV version...
I am trying to exclude a folder on a Windows 2000 server from Norton Antivirus 2001 Profession Edition ver. 7.08.28l but am having a problem. It kicks back an error message of "invalid filename".
The file server name has two hyphens in it and I wondered if that is a problem. This is...
As I included in the original post, they are running Win 98 workstations with Word 2000 as the word processor.
I have looked in the printer configuration but can't see how to add a paper size. I need to add letterhead and leave it in a dedicated (MP) paper tray.
I have a client trying to run a FP 2.6 DOS app on a Win2k workstation. It is generating a NTVDM "parameter is incorrect" error message. Any suggestions. Workstation has 128 meg RAM and is pulling the app from a Windows 98 workstation (soon to upgrade to a Win2k server).
I don't...
I have a client that runs several HP LaserJet 4's on their small office network. Workstations are Windows 98 running Office 2000.
I can't figure out how to create or add a paper size to let them keep letterhead in the MP tray so that Word will know to tell the printer to pull it when...
I am trying to maintain an Approach file that is shared off of a MS 2000 Server. I can change related form letters and forms but the changes are not consistently visible from the other computers. I save the Approach file from the workstation where I make the changes, close and reopen Approach...
