I'm pretty sure when you restore an exchange 5.5 server, from backup tape... the patition sizes, the server name and Exchange organisation should be exactly the same when trying to recover

when you use Exmerge all mails get downloaded onto a pst

Maybe try Exmerge... it should be part of the exchange resource kit

Do you have a copy of your dsdata folder from the backup your trying to restore... the Dir.edb would have to match when installing the priv.edb our pub.edb. Either use technet to trouble shoot errors, or rename the current dsdata folder and recover the old one from the backup... Good luck B
