ooooher!
That is confusing!
I kind of understand what it's saying...
And by the looks of it you need to use slots 1 & 2 with 1gig strips I'm guessing DDR1 so PC2100/PC2700/PC3200
The problems arise when it comes to density (how many memory chips each stick has) and whether they are single...
As long as you board has a PCIe slot...something like this:

I'm afraid people have not fully understood what you were asking....you description sounded clear enough for me and I perfectly understood your point.
Of course....if the connection type inside the slot were slower than the actual USB outlet it would be a bottleneck.
Fortunately...in your case...
Find a model that suits then go onto the driver support page for that manufacturer and product to see if XP is supported.
I'm guessing the bigger names will have the best driver support ie: HP, Lenovo, Acer, Samsung, Sony.
Even if it comes with W7 some will have XP support...it will just take...
Or a quad AMD bundle for a budget buy...still going to be appreciably quicker than what you have.

My appologies, with 8 cores i presumed it would be a work station.
Thats one powerful laptop you have there.....

It sounds like your motherboards chipset is right on the cusp of change between 400 and 533fsb processors. Therefore it could be that applying the latest bios flash to the motherboard might make it compatible (if the chipset indeed supports 533fsb)
There should be no need to manually adjust core...
Unrelate I guess but:
Thats why I don't like stock coolers, where then fan sounds excessive and load at 100%.
I use a large heatpipe cooler with 120mm fan so in the unlikely even (given it's improved cooling over stock) that the fan spins at full speed, it is still barely audible.
I use a Fenrir...
Time for Sandy Bridge me thinks......lol

Fair enough rclarke250 but thats ones out of stock and in the USA (BionicJohn is across the pond in the UK)
It's a shame there isn't a 4 sale section on here but I can appreciate it would attract unwanted attention.

All the motherboards suggested thus far are small integrated mainboards, strickly budget and a step backwards from what you have presently installed.
Even though these boards are NEW they are based on older IC7 southbridge technology (yours is P35 board based on the IC9R southbridge)seems a...
Now if speed is 'the goal' you need to be looking for 1066 memory, with the lowest latency possible. The heat sinked type from Kingston/OCZ/Geil/Patriot/Crucial/G.Skill/Corsair
Corsair Dominator series would be a good bet.
Remember to run these default low latencey speeds the memory voltage...
Power and reset buttons are what the call 'momentary' switches. When pressed and released they only make contact briefly then disconnect (unless held)
You can simulate this by just brushing the two contacts together briefly and then leaving them parted.
The sort of action you would get with a...
It might also be worth noting that a motherboard firmware upgrade (flash) may well improve memory compatibility and in some instances the ability to run larger capacity modules although this is usually determined by the chipset limitations (motherboards north/south bridge processors)
