    solved my problem downloaded a software called jstart from jester tools thirdeyesolutions.com and it works great no matter where the actual application you want the file to open in resides thanks for your help

    newbie thankyou but it didnt help what im trying to do is link an image in aflash projector which when clicked it would launch illustrator the program and put the .ai file in it i tried fscommand that doesnt seem to work
