    vmstat output

The "de" parameter is a deficit counter for paging. If your output is a non-zero then memory was being used very quickly recently. When this happens any required extra memory will try to be reclaimed, which in turn raises your paging activity outputs and accesses. Which in itself may...

SUN Volume manager on IBM SSA

Not 100% sure on this, but I seem to believe that Sun VM is basically Veritas VxVM in disguise. If so then I also believe that you will need an SSA license and a RAID 5 license to use the two in conjunction. (Depending on version I beleive that the SSA option is standard in later versions of...

SUN Solaris 2.6 - Increase swap space

oops.. just a quick note, not wishing to teach you to suck eggs but obviously if you want it mounted at boot, the /etc/vfstab will also need to be updated...

SUN Solaris 2.6 - Increase swap space

ok, no worries, first of all check your swap space with 1. "swap -l" 2. su to root (if not already) 3. do a man on 'mkfile' to be sure you have all your options you ever wanted. 4. issue "mkfile (size required) (filename)" 5. issue "swap -a (pathname)" this adds...

    warning messages during boot up

You can actually edit out the specified failing drivers from the /etc/system file, just add an '*' infront of the line, same thing happens if you install Veritas VxVM except its /drv/pln, drv/pln and /drv/ses that normally fail forceload with additions occasionally of /drv/soc and /drv/socal

Xsun Process is a CPU Hog on Solaris 2.6 5/98

Hopefully, this is it.. hope it helps, or I'm fresh out of idea's...... The rpc.ttdbserverd process increases dramatically whenever someone logs into CDE/Openwindows through the dtlogin screen. No errors are indicated anywhere. Killing the rpc.ttdbserverd process helps to bring the system...

    Drive power lost!

Is this fixed yet..? If not, I realise this is a bit of a long shot, but.... Are there any scsi disks on the same controller as the tape.? I have previously had a screwy problem where the disk activity just locked the bus to the tape drives and thus the software considered it to be powered down...

Xsun Process is a CPU Hog on Solaris 2.6 5/98

I'll keep looking for the SunSolve entry I found previously, but as I said I am afraid I couldn't find it again and it has been quite sometime since I saw this problem... Sorry previous posts were not particularly helpful, but I am getting old and my mind isn't always with the rest of my body...

    Legato Migration

As far as I am aware Networker licensing is tied to MAC address and Hostname, not IP addresses. Thus as long as you dont change the MAC address or hostname then restores shouldn't be an issue and even if say you have a NIC failure and have change the card and get a new MAC as long as your...

Display lost once i slot in a PCI SCSI Adaptor

Do you lose the display at the boot ptompt or only after Solaris starts to boot? If you can get to the boot prompt you can try typing probe-scsi-all (or it maybe scsi-probe-all, I never can remember until it tells me I typo'd) this will go out and test for your SCSI adaptor to see if it is...

Xsun Process is a CPU Hog on Solaris 2.6 5/98

I have done a little thinking on this and I believe that the ultimate fix here for me was that the help dBase had to be resorted, something about a daemon running perinantly trying to find something in the dBase causing this problem with the CDE. BUt I must admit, I didn't find the SunSolve...

Anyone using Fiber Channel on Unix box?

I dont have ADIc, I use StorageTek Fibre Channel Tapes and SCSI Robotics with no problems, Networker configures the Robot with no errors and the Fibre Tapes are great with high bandwidth for multiplexing save sets... I have these configured on an E450 with Solaris 2.6 with all Solaris 2.6 Clients

Xsun Process is a CPU Hog on Solaris 2.6 5/98

I'm pretty sure I have seen this on SunSolve, I think it's a GUI problem and the recommendation is, as Andy says, to turn off either CDE or OpenWin

CDE - colors wont stay changed?

Once you have change the defaults are you using the last option to change from setting these colurs just for this session or to save them now as your default session values?

    Hot backups!!

jeeeeez, now your asking a big question in a small number of words.... unfortunately, there are a lot of "depends on what/how you want to do and with what packages and systems" Legato in real basic terms will run an agent on the client systems that talk with the Legato Networker...
