Sounds like something is causing a hang on startup - try booting in safe mode and remove the last software to be installed (use the programs uninstaller if you can)

Have you tried re-running Disk Utillity, as sometimes it only repairs the first problem it encounters. Its usually best to re-run it until it shows no errors.
