Hi Scott
For basic connectivity all you will need to configure on the switch will be the IP address, subnet mask and gateway IP address. Instructions should come with your switch on doing this.
Not sure about the model of switch you are looking at I dont use linksys

Was the wired NIC enabled? I have seen some laptops disable the wired NIC while wireless is in use and then unless you reboot or specify that wired be used it remains disabled.

Hi Choppsy
I would say that looks fine, if after adding new users further down the line you notice performance issues and the percentage of broadcasts has escalated you may need to then divide your broadcast domain by adding a router or implementing VLANs. For now though I see no problems with...

Have you tried connecting upto the switches locally via a console/management port and checking the IP cfg that way. If you do have speed issues check link speeds and duplex settings while your there as well - the LED indicators should tell you port connection details.

Thanks V Much!!
What is the theory behind VLANS??
Is this something that allows 2 subnets over 1 LAN?
Will I have to setup each switch with 2 Vlans (192.168.2.0 + 192.168.20.0)?
Does anyone have any FAQs I can take a look at?

Hi Lloydsev,
I will take alook at the software but feel that the issue is possibly at bios level;
If all you want to do is upgrade to XP, you can do this by booting with the XP disk in the drive..
I would do this but cant see the cd drive to boot on the xp disk - hence my problem
