Tohiba Laptop Won't Boot....What are my options

Hi BrucesXP, rvnguy & lewisp; Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, and for your excellent suggestions. This morning I had to go to the city where I bought the computer & was thinking of taking it to them & asking their advice. Suddenly...duuhhh... it dawned on me that when I...

Tohiba Laptop Won't Boot....What are my options

Hi rvnguy, Thanks for responding to my other post (about the boxes) & for asking about the laptop. Unfortunately, it's still not working; I'm afraid it may be a 'goner'. I've continued to keep it plugged in, and the LED =) (the lights on the front that look like a plug and a battery) are still...

Tohiba Laptop Won't Boot....What are my options

Hi rvnguy, Thanks so much for your response. By 'icon' I meant the little lights on the front of the case...LED is likely the correct term. Aghhhh...you caught me. I'm hesitant (embarrassed) to tell you that yes, something did get 'spilled' on it---possibly! I foolishly watered my lawn and...

Strange boxes with numbers floating on screen...what is this??

By the way...if anyone should anyone else ever have this problem, I DID find the cause, strange as it all may seem. I have IBM ViaVoice installed, and use it frequently. If that program is still active (in other words, if I haven't closed it down completely) and I go online, the boxes will...

Tohiba Laptop Won't Boot....What are my options

Hi, I have a Toshiba A25-S279; Pentium 4-2.80 15X 512M 60 RW/DV WLg, less than 2 yrs old. It simply will not boot...no sound at all when I turn it on, so no fan, no 'whirr' of HD, nothing. Appears to be completely dead. The only 'hope' I have is that the power light (plug icon) still lights up...

Strange boxes with numbers floating on screen...what is this??

Thanks to everyone and the good suggestions. Yes, am using IE. I had spybot on for a bit, but if I remember correctly, had some problems with it. May give it another try. I do think I might have found the site that was causing it, and will avoid it and see--the little boxes haven't come up now...

Strange boxes with numbers floating on screen...what is this??

No--ran ad-aware and it found nothing (which is unusual, as it usually does find one or two suspicious files)

Strange boxes with numbers floating on screen...what is this??

Yes..Norton...just scanned the entire disk and no viruses found.

Strange boxes with numbers floating on screen...what is this??

Of all the strange things that have happened since I installed Windows XP, this one 'takes the cake'. When online, I'm often 'beset' by these little boxes (about 1/8" or 3mm) with numbers in them, floating around on my screen. Sometimes, if the page is in paragraph form, they will 'align'...

Warning AFTER complete system scan with Norton

Hi All, Thanks SO much for the many great suggestions. I believe I finally 'got it', using the patch from Microsoft and the Blaster Worm Removal from Norton. Whew! =). I really appreciate all your help...it's such a relief to have a place to come ask all this kind of stuff. Best Regards, Judy

Warning AFTER complete system scan with Norton

Thanks Gary, I did as you suggested, and hopefully will defeat this thing. What I don't understand, though is how I got infected in the first place, in that the FIRST thing I did after reformatting my hard drive, was to download all the latest updates from both Microsoft AND Symantec. Shouldn't...

Warning AFTER complete system scan with Norton

The compressed file winsvc.exe within C:\WINDOWS\system32\winsvc.exe is infected with the Bloodhound.Exploit.1 virus. And then it says in red letters at the bottom: "You have not eliminated all threats. There is still 1 infection(s) remaining." In the meantime, I'm getting 'pop-up'...

Warning AFTER complete system scan with Norton

Since I deleted them, I can't tell you for sure, but I think these I found in 'Backup Items' are the ones: File name: TFTP3064; Threat Name: W32.Welchia.Worm (orig. Loc: C:\Windows\System32) File name: TFTP332; Threat Name: W32.Blaster.Worm (orig. Loc: C:\Windows\System32)

Warning AFTER complete system scan with Norton

Please help. I'm using Norton Antivirus 2004 on Windows XP, and have all the latest updates. I've run 3 complete scans on my entire system today. Each time, Norton found a virus, which I had 'quarantined' and then deleted. Yet every time AFTER the scan, a warning pops up that my machine is still...
