They do only have one computer connected to the modem. The other is connected to the router. They did have the 2nd computer disconnected for a few days from the router and it didn't cut out. Does it have anything to do with the 2nd computer being old (Win98SE)? Main computer runs XP.

John, The only 2 things under the Universal serial Bus Controllers is the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller and the USB Root Hub. The original scanner is listed under the Imaging Devices category and my new device is not listed anywhere. Christine
