Beginner question I know but I don't deal with duplicate tapes often.
We're not using vault, just making inline copies. The primary backup tape is off-site. How do I determine what the copy-2 media ID is for a particular file so I can promote that tape to primary? Is it as simple as expiring...
Resolved... though not really through Symantec.
It's an selinux problem. Don't know how I didn't see it earlier.
Turns out Symantec has a document on it already:
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/290148.htm
But their techs didn't know about it. heh.
Hope this helps somebody else.

I've set up a test server to play around with 6.5.2. I have everything set up properly as far as I can tell (master server running RHEL 4 ES). I can probe and back up a linux client running version 6.0mp5, but if I push (or install from CD even) the 6.5.2 client to it I can no longer probe it...
The hot catalog backup in NB6 doesn't allow you to specify the files or paths.
However after much research and an email to Veritas tech support I found the answer to my problem!
Turns out that Netbackup doesn't support having the openv directory on an NFS file system!!! Go figure. So I...
We are running out of room on our current "/usr/openv" partition, so I rsynced the data to a new larger partition. I stopped Netbackup, ran bp.kill_all, synced the two partitions and changed my soft link under /usr to point to the new "openv" partition. No Problem.
I ended up having to reboot...
Fixed it!
I had to escalate the severity with Veritas, but once that happened it was fixed in a day!
It turns out that if you have several network interfaces you need to specify which one you want NDMP to use in a file called:
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/config/ndmp.cfg
In this file you put...
Thanks dgallegos,
But I've already checked both of those things.
Oddly enough, a call to the NetApp tech support line reveals that they are still testing against NB 4.5 and don't have NB 6 installed yet.
Sheesh!
According to the NB6 NDMP PDF (lots of acronyms there eh!), I need to install some software on the master server, but I can't find the CD they require. I asked the vendor who gave us the temporary NDMP license and he said that NB6 now comes with the NDMP software installed, you just need the...
This is for netbackup 6 mp4, runnig on redhat linux 4.
I've set up a Disk Staging Storage Unit that writes to a local RAID and it works great. However, when I set up the staging schedule to write this data to tape the option to make multiple copies is grayed out. I would like to make two...
I'm new to fibre channel and multipathing so if something below sounds nubish please forgive.
My question is: Is Netbackup Enterprise-6mp4 smart enough to NOT send all the data to the drives down just one fibre? I don't mean two lines to one drive, I mean will a multipathed server send data to...
It's Fixed!
I was poking around in the SDLC config and found a place where the drives were not bound to Client1. I modified one drive and was successful in labeling a tape. Whew, what a pain, now I can move on to the next crisis.
Cdpwin12, thanks for all of your time and effort,
