Comtech, thats the problem, I have the drivers on the disk, press F6 and insert the disk when prompted. The floppy lights up and then xp tells me it cannot find the file 'txtsetup.oem' but that file is on the disk in the root directory.
Im putting it on the RAID connector because it is ATA-133 and I have an ATA-133 HDD, the primary master is ATA-100 and I have 2 other HDD's I plan to put on that. The folks at Asus said this can be done and that by default the RAID connector will be one drive set as master, a second drive set...
This is a new build (Asus P4PE) and everything has gone flawlessly, booted to BIOS on the first try, Ive just been waiting on my copy of win xp pro (full version) to arrive via UPS, the final piece to the puzzle. I knew it was gonna be a bad evening when I checked the UPS website and it said my...
Hey foordy, I just bought a P4 3.06 and it was just under $600. havent received my OS yet but booted the newly built system to the BIOS and the cpu temp was at 115F (dont remember the celcius reading as I cant relate to it). Is that about normal?
Check out this reply I got on ZDnet to the exact same post:
>"I suggest that if the supplier of such a board can't >answer this question, you should shop elsewhere."
well... wasnt that helpful. Thats what I'll do, Just throw away my new motherboard and buy another one. What a jerk.
My new motherboard (ASUS P4PE) has a RAID ATA/133 connector and the manual says that "by default the drive you connect will follow the ATA 133/100/66/33 protocol as an independent drive, not as a disk array". The Maxtor drive I ordered is an ATA 133 drive. Does this mean I can...
I finally got around to working on this again while waiting on parts to arrive for new system.
dcwtechmech, I did as you said and with some difficulty getting it to boot from the recovery cd it worked!
I put both HDD's on the primary controller (master= freshly formatted drive) and both cd...
Well, I dont think Im gonna fool with it either, at least not on the new system, I may play around with the old one, which is a celeron 1.2ghz.
I got the 3ghz because I wanted the hyper threading and no, the board is 4x agp. I was kinda suprised at that.
I actually havent decided on a video...
As I understand it, overclocking is running the processor (and RAM?) faster that what it is rated at. How this is accomplished, I dont know but it looks like the board I ordered comes with software utilities to do just that. So I ordered these memory sticks (Corsair XMS) that claims to be made...
Okay, so you guys recommend scraping off the original stuff and putting a different compound on it. If I were to do that I think I would want to install it as is to make sure the processor isnt DOA before scraping anything.
Is it difficult to remove once installed? Back in the day they were a...
Well I did it, I ordered the Asus P4PE Board and P4 3.06GHz Processor and a gig of PC2700 DDR 333MHz. Was sitting here flipping through a Tigerdirect catalog and noticed a intel socket 478 fan and in the description it says "includes thermal compound". Im assuming it somehow reduces...
I decided to go ahead and get the 3.06GHz. Was looking at RAM and a 1GB PC2700 DDR 333MHz chip was over $1000.00 yet I can get 2 512MB ones for a little over $400.00.
Whats the difference other than using up 2 slots vs 1?
Thanks, that makes sense (about the chipset), I just dont know anything about that kinda stuff and is why I am asking for advice.
After reading that evaluation and someone else already suggesting it, that Asus P4PE is looking pretty good and it has the chipseet you like. Although a bit pricey...
