I think this may very well have been the problem. I don't remember exactly, but I belive I was using static IPs in that instance, and I was not aware that it needed DNS servers specified. Thanks much for your help - it will be of great help next time I install one of these.
No, I never did figure it out. I just set up the server not using a domain, since my time was limited. I would still love to know the answer for next time.
I just spent hours troubleshooting a computer with the same problem as Larie51's above. New.Net is a piece of (substitute an appropiatel 4-letter word here). Too bad I didn't read this first.
I was able to get smb to connect just fine. There are some other issues that I'm not up to speed on, though. I tried to use smbmount when logged in as eldon (that's me) and it wouldn't let me, so I did an su then it let me do it. However, then all the files were read-only to me (eldon), and...
I have a Red Hat 8.0 computer running as a Windows PDC w/ Samba. Everything is working flawlessly. However, now I need to connect a couple of Linux workstations to the same shares used by Samba. Since I already have them shared through Samba, should I just use SMB Client to connect from the...
I've been using it on my file server for nearly a week now. It seems to work excellent, and it includes an updated version of Samba as well. The upgrade from 7.3 went very smooth - I didn't have to reconfigure a thing.
The new interface is nice as well. I personally like it much better than...
I'm setting up a new Samba server. I need to have a different logon script for each group. Is there a way to do that? I know I can do a unique one for each user like so
logon script = %u.bat
is there a %g variable or something that I can use? It would save me writing a script for every user.
I am a new convert to OpenOffice. I have hundreds of documents in WordPerfect format. Is there some sort of import or conversion utility that might help me? For now, I have to go into each document with WP, save it as a Word document, and then go into OpenOffice, and convert it to the native...
Not sure about the VBA macros thing, but that's not an issue here, anyway. All we need is basic Word Processing and file sharing with other word users. I'm not crazy about Works Suite either, but I can just do a minimal install and then use the Word icon instead of that clumsy "task...
I am wondering what the differences are between the MS Word that comes with Works Suite and the one that sells by itself? I'm not talking about the stripped-down word processor that comes with the standard Works package, but Word XP that comes with Works Suite. It appears to be the same as the...
Thanks guys... all the the suggestions are very helpful. I am doing a single-tape, full-system backup, so from what I hear, Windows 2000 backup may do the job. All the on-site users are going to be doing is swapping tapes, so as long as I can get them to insert the correct tapes, I should be OK.
I've just installed a new Windows 2000 server. I'm trying to decide which back up software to use. Veritas Backup Exec Server is costly compared to just using the Windows 2000 backup program. Is BE worth the money just to do a simple full system backup? Any considerations or suggestions...
This is a brand new user profile, so I guess that means its small???? Or is there a way to allocate the size you want? The time is the same regardless of the machine I use. All of the PCs are Celeron 1.4s with 256 MB of RAM and 10/100 NICs.
In response to the first e-mail, there is a local...
I am getting familiar with Windows 2000 server for the first time. I set it up as the domain controller on a small network. Everythings works great, except that when a workstation logs into the domain, it takes up to 2 or 3 minutes for the login process to complete. It spends most of it's...
