    Win XP Home. Under the Windows directory I have 20-30 files highlighted in blue "$NtUninstallQ3319826" All have different numbers following "NtUinstall" I supect these are temp files that I can delete but being new to XP I'm not sure. What say.

    Learning Win XP Home, no networking, have CD Burner installed. Under Administration Tools/Component Service Local, should the following be Started (they are currently not): Speed Disk Service, Logical Disk Managment, Windows Image Acquistion, IMAPI CD Burning.

    Amd Athlon 500mhz, No networkings, 384mb memory, 80GB Hard drive, Win98SE. I have set my System.ini vcache as: [vcache] MinFileCache=98160 MaxFileCache=98160 Chunksize=512 Does this sound reasonable?

While everyone's suggestion was helpful, it was cdogg's answer that solved it. It was the program Memturbo loading through my startup that was the villian. Disabled...

    Thanks for the help in solving my VCACHE problem of not making changes to it in my system.ini to stick. It was as tsuji said...something in my startup. Specifically it was MEMTURBO. I disabled it and all is well.

    Using win98SE,384MB RAM,AMD Athlon. I am trying to change the value of MaxFileCache in the System.ini. It is currently set at MaxFileCache=15360. I wish to change it to 98304. When I make the change and save it, it reverts back to 15360 when I restart/reboot. I have run scanregw.exe immediately...
